I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till I drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion. Jack Kerouac
But this park in India.... Is it named after a Brit?
--
back in the day when India was a British colony (1947 and earlier) there were any number of Brits in India... Jim Corbett was a one of those guys... he was a hunter turned conservationist. He was responsible for killing any number of man eating leopards and tigers in the region of the park, so he was something of a local hero. He also wrote an incredible number of books about the local wildlife and the various maneaters in particular... which gave him a significant amount of name recognition. After India gained independence, he stuck around for a while, but then left for Kenya where he continued with his nature thing... less hunting... more preaching for saving etc... he died in 1975 or so, which is when they decided to name the park after him.
In this day and political climate in India... where they're changing the names of streets and even the largest and oldest cities to antiquated names that were barely even used (Bombay to Mumbai, Calcutta to Kolkata, Trivandrum to Tiruvanathapuram, Madras to Chennai, almost all done 1995 onwards) it is a little surprising that no one has made a hue and cry about this name... but I guess... no one really cares about Parks anyway... so meh?
